Drywall Cost Calculator

Estimate the total cost of a drywall project including material, waste allowance, labor, and sales tax.

Formula & Explanation

This calculator estimates the total cost of a drywall project by combining material, waste, labor, and tax. **Material Cost** = Sheet Count × Cost per Sheet **Waste Cost** = Material Cost × (Waste % ÷ 100) **Material with Waste** = Material Cost + Waste Cost **Tax** = (Material with Waste) × (Tax % ÷ 100) **Total Cost** = Material with Waste + Labor Cost + Tax Tax is applied to material and waste, but typically NOT to labor (check your local jurisdiction).

Assumptions

  • Sheet prices are averages; actual costs vary by location, supplier, and market conditions
  • Waste allowance (default 10%) accounts for cutting, breakage, and contingency
  • Labor cost is optional and set by the contractor or crew rate
  • Sales tax applies to material and waste, not labor (standard in most U.S. jurisdictions)
  • Does not include primer, paint, tape, mud, fasteners, or other finishing materials
  • Does not account for project complexity, access challenges, or special waste disposal

Example Calculation

A 10-sheet project at $15/sheet with 10% waste, $500 labor, and 8% tax totals approximately $678.
